If you were to bump into someone at your favourite coffee shop tomorrow and they gave you a free plane ticket to some cool country in the world (lets say Australia for instance), but you could only take one small backpacks worth of photography gear, what would be the first things you'd take? In particular what sort of strobist gear would to you take, if any?
Also, would you be looking forward to an Australian beer, wine or coffee as your first beverage after a fun day of bokehlicious scenery?

Anons make me sad but its a good looking question so I’ll go with it.

Ok Australia sucks but whatever… This isn’t too tricky, I normally have a pretty light kit bag, I only pile lots of kit into a big bag if I really need it. But I like to keep things simple:

• Canon 5D MkII — obviously how could I be without it, I’d probably pack it without the grip to save on weight & bulk.
• Canon 50mm F/1.4 an not a single other lens, sure I’d miss my 135, but we are trying to travel light here. If I felt I needed more flexibility I would possibly swap this out for the Canon 24-70L.
• Canon 580ex II flash, plenty of power, good size, weather sealed, bullet proof. 
• RF602 trigger & receiver.
• Westcott collapsable umbrella, this thing folds down small, can just tuck it your bad, and when you open it its a good size (37cm) can be used as a shoot through or reflective. 
• A good sturdy light bracket. 
• A light weight tripod that could double up as a light stand (My light bracket will screw into a tripod head). Something small enough to clip to the outside of the backpack. 
• And finally my Canon AE-1 Program with 50mm F/1.8 & a few rolls of Fuji X-tra 400 & 800 — I’d kick myself if I was somewhere interesting & didn’t have her.

Fuck yeah — just found a roll of Fujichrome Velvia ISO50 in my draw while getting my kit ready for a shoot! Now all I need is a nice sunny day soon to shoot it!
